Currently I’m mad about allotments. I’ve recently acquired my own in North London and just love the community and growing potential that a small patch of outdoor space allows. I have also recently returned from visiting friends in Sweden who kindly took me to a collection of allotments surrounding the edge of Stockholm. (Pictured above and below)
The Swedish allotments are so well cared for and elegantly arranged. Stockholm is an apartment city and its inhabitants want a little outdoor space to call their own, and the government allocated green space for them many years ago. Now the allotments are passed down generations of families, and are bountiful when in bloom.
I admit to having a penchant for Scandinavian design, I’ve always loved things Swedish and the allotments are a lovely example of their good design and order. Now that I have my very own allotment I have grand ideas…but it’s still a work in progress…
I would love to see pictures of your own allotment from around the world, if you send pictures of your allotment to email@example.com or tweet to @balconygardener
The best three pictures will win a Burgon and Ball Trowel Set.
Can’t wait to see your pics!
