We’re delighted to say that we have teamed up with the wonderful organics company Rachel’s Organic and are running a competition with their online team. All their lovely products are made simply, with care and use only the very best locally sourced milk and the finest organic ingredients.
Interestingly Rachel’s were Britain’s first ever certified organic dairy, and Rachel’s mother, Dinah, was one of the first people to sign up to the Soil Association in 1952. Rachel and her husband Gareth took to the helm in 1966, and remained true to her family’s organic principles, supplying premium quality organic milk to the Milk Marketing Board and the dairy went from strength to strength.
However it was a freak snow storm in 1982 that changed the farm’s direction. Unable to get milk off the farm, Rachel was forced to find new ways of using milk, and, with the help of Gareth, started producing deliciously pure butter and cream to distribute as emergency supplies in the local area. These products became an instant success and the first yogurts were made a few years later in a bath tub in dairy sheds. Rachel’s Dairy was founded in 1984 and it was from this year that the company started its rapid ascent to become a popular household name.
